If you are like me, you have deep connection with Netflix. It is the escape from regular prime time tv coupled with way too many commercials. It’s a way to watch a show you love several episodes at a time. And if you are like me, you have a partner that wants to enjoy those multiple shows with you.
But sometimes your inner cheater voice takes over. Let’s say you are watching Stranger Things with your lovely hubby, who picked up dinner on the way home by the way, and you mutually decide to stop at S.1; Ep.8. Except you don’t want to stop. Screw the fact that it’s 11pm and you both have to be at work early. Forget that you promised to watch it together tomorrow night after the kids go to bed.
But….YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT and because of this, you are doomed to become the cheater in your relationship.
You’ll just watch one episode, you tell yourself. You make the plan to fake your enthusiasm during your couple’s binge tomorrow night. You practice your surprise faces and get the sounds of your gasps to be pretty authentic. You feel pretty good about your plan but while you are planning your plan, one episode turns into 3. That turns into 5. You look at the clock and it’s 3am.
You look up and there’s your sleepy-eyed spouse who you vowed to love and cherish asking you what the eff you are doing?!
Guilty doesn’t even describe how you feel right now as you try a puppy-dog gaze at your beloved. “I only was going to watch one episode!”, you blurt out while using one of your ‘surprise faces’ you practiced earlier.
I don’t know if you can come back from this. The damage is done. You suggest that they cheat on you to make the score even and vow to never let this happen again.
